Gaucin
is a very attractive white village, 30 minutes inland from the Mediterranean
coast and 45 minutes from the historic town of Ronda. The streets spill
down the mountainside and there are wonderful views at every turn.
Los Buhos sits on a rocky outcrop on the edge of the village of Gaucin.
It was the rock formation which largely determined the layout of the
house and this in turn has made for a very interesting interior on three
floors. Each bedroom suite is on a different level and so is very private.
The living room, dining room, and kitchen are on the middle floor, forming
the nucleus of the house and there are terraces to take advantage of
the spectacular views on all levels. There are stairs and steps linking
each room - anyone living here would be sure to stay fit!
While
from the terraces there are views all around, the garden is intimate
and secluded. Incorporating many Japanese design ideas, Mediterranean
influences too have been included. The result is a peaceful oasis around
the swimming pool with a choice of areas in sun and shade for relaxation.
The house has gradually been evolving over the last fifteen or so years.
By starting with a solid structure with rooms of good proportion, and
adding quality fittings, this lovely country house has taken shape.
