The Interior

Antique doors are a feature of the house - you enter through beautiful old convent doors into the hall. This is painted in warm tones of peach and white with the circular sculpted staircase designed by John Stephanidis as the focal point. There are terracotta tiled floors throughout the ground and first floor and underfloor central heating throughout.

The bedroom suite on this floor has French doors opening out to the pool and garden and a window looking to the terrace. The house has been designed with plenty of windows, unusual in an Andaluz house, leading the imagination on to new vistas. All the windows have the traditional rejas, or grilles, but these are not at all obtrusive, being set well apart from the window itself. The en-suite bathroom has white sanitaryware with the basin set into a vanity unit. The wall tiles were handmade in Seville.

On the second floor there is another bedroom suite. This can be accessed from a separate outside staircase, again with antique doors, and can be closed off to make it very private. Here the bedroom has lovely views to the Crestellina mountain, and doors with a balcony. The en-suite bathroom is in tones of soft green.

Steps lead up to the living room. This is a lovely room with four sets of French doors with a covered terrace running the full length, looking onto the hills and Mediterranean coast beyond. Measuring 9 m by 4.7 m with a high ceiling and painted in sunny tones, there is a hint of Tuscany in this room.

The dining room is across the hallway. Taking the theme of the house 'Los Buhos' each of the 14 dining chairs has an owl motif incorporated somewhere on it - a charming touch. Sitting here at dinner, the garden on both sides is illuminated to show the perspectives beyond.

Adjoining the kitchen is a small sitting area with a TV, ideal for relaxing. The large country kitchen has a beamed ceiling, painted wood units and a professional gas cooker has recently been added. There is a pantry area to one side housing the fridges and freezer. Doors lead out onto a lovely little terrace for breakfast.

On this level there is a small cloakroom with toilet and handbasin.

The master suite is on the top floor up a gracious curved staircase. This comprises of large bedroom with terraces on two sides and of course, lovely views. The bathroom has a Jacuzzi bath and separate shower, toilet and bidet with a door leading to the terrace. Steps lead up to another room , ideal as an office or small sitting room and this has a private sunbathing terrace. There is also a walk-in closet. This top floor has air conditioning and wood flooring throughout.

The Garden......

Fact file: Regarding the mechanics of the house, there are solar panels for the hot water in summer. In winter, a butane system runs the underfloor central heating and hot water.
